A great place if you are a jet fan. No, not a Jets fan, a jet fan.
The drive in was a little white-knuckly for us as n00bs, and the truck did have to think a little bit about the steep grade at the entrance, but once we were in things were fine. The staff was quite nice and escorted us to our site. The pull-through sites aren’t quite as close together as the back-in sites, which you pass through on the way to the pull-throughs and to which we began to refer as “The Doldrums.” The Doldrums had a few fifth wheels, lots of travel trailers, and a fair number of rigs that seemed to be on permanent vacation and had seen better days.
We stayed four days, with the intent of hanging out in KCMO each day, but due to cold, rainy weather, we only made it down there one day. I’d been to the city 20 years ago or so and remembered enjoying the city market. It was expanded and even better than I recalled – we got some great sandwiches from Local Pig and an ethereal loaf of bread from Bloom Bakery.
Good water pressure, good WiFi until the park filled up on the weekend, nice bathhouse, pretty good dog park.
Oh, and it’s on a landing path for the Kansas City International Airport. Flights don’t start until 4:30 AM during the week, 5:00 AM on weekends, so it’s a great place to get an early start on the day!
