I last posted here back in January, when we were all so much younger and carefree. Matt & I were in the process of trading in the Jayco fifth-wheel for the Tiffin Allegro motorhome in Tucson while staying at Valley Vista RV Park in Benson, AZ before heading to New Mexico to winter at The Original Ranch SKP Co-op where we had bought a lot back in December. Two months there where we’d settle into our new rig and get a casita put onsite (nicer than a shed but not a tiny home), then off to Sacramento to a dear friend’s marriage celebration.
Ahem.
As of this writing, we’ve been in Lakewood for over three months, with no safe departure date on the horizon. Many of the RV websites I follow show that some people are pulling up stakes because the wanderlust is too irresistible, or because they recently bought an RV and just need to get the hell out of the house and camp for a weekend. Perhaps we’re being overly cautious, awaiting herd immunity or a vaccine, and I wish good health upon everyone, but this isn’t a gamble we’re willing to make. You might think you can push that one tire that’s looking a little threadbare just one more trip, or chance getting into an RV park without a reservation – those are bets you can lose and still live. This is The Big One and we’re not throwing an ante into that pot.
In any case, I’ve committed to updating this blog more often both to keep my head in RV life and to stay in touch with friends and family across the country.
Please stay safe and well so we can hug another day, or at least swill wine around a pool or fire together!
